Mary Gina Ratchford, MD
Mary Ratchford is a board-certified ophthalmic surgeon and has been in private practice since 1995. After attending Hamilton College in upstate NY, she graduated from Albany Medical College where she completed both medical school and an internal medicine residency. She went on to finish an ophthalmology residency at the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, LA and completed a glaucoma fellowship at the Duke Eye Center in Durham, NC.
She performs surgery at Hartford Hospital Eye Surgery Center in Newington as well as the Rocky Hill Eye Surgery Center in Rocky Hill. She maintains hospital privileges at Hospital of Central Connecticut and Hartford Hospital. She specializes in cataract surgery. Professional societies include the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Connecticut Society of Eye Physicians, Connecticut Medical Society, and the Hartford County Medical Society.
Dr. Ratchford participates in overseas missions performing cataract surgery in underserved areas of the world with Vision Health International. Outside the office, Dr. Ratchford spends time with her husband, Scott, and their twin sons and daughter. The entire family enjoys many outdoor activities including skiing, hiking, canoeing, and running.
Brett Kjellen, OD
Brett Kjellen attended Eastern Connecticut State University for his undergraduate studies in Biology. He earned his Doctorate of Optometry as well as a degree in Visual Science from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2000. Dr. Kjellen completed his internships with honors at the Olympia Fields Hospital and Medical Center in Illinois, the Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago, and the White River Junction VA Medical Center in Vermont.
He joined the Ratchford Eye Center in 2012, Prior to that, Dr. Kjellen practiced primary eye care in Meriden CT. He serves patients at the Hartford Hospital Eye Surgery Center and Rocky Hill Eye Surgery Center. Professional societies include the American Optometric Association, as well as the Connecticut Association of Optometrists. He enjoys golf, hiking, and spending time with his wife, son, and their rescue dog.
Daniel Chin, MD
Daniel Chin is a board certified Ophthalmic Surgeon. He graduated with a B.A. from New York University with academic achievements on the dean’s list and honors in Biology. He received his medical degree from New York University where he was also involved in Immunological research dealing with the inflammatory response of the human body. He completed a medical and surgical internship at Overlook Hospital, a Columbia Affiliated Hospital. He returned to New York University where he completed his Ophthalmology residency, where he served as the Chief resident of Bellevue Hospital and the Manhattan V.A. Hospital.
Dr. Chin joined the Ratchford Eye Center in 2008. Prior to joining the group, Dr. Chin was in practice in Middlesex County and an Assistant Clinical Professor in Ophthalmology at the UCONN Health Center where he practiced comprehensive medical and surgical ophthalmology. He has a special interest in cataract surgery, laser surgery, and eyelid plastic surgery. Dr. Chin is an attending surgeon at the Hospital of Central Connecticut and Hartford Hospital. He performs surgery at the Hartford Hospital Eye Surgery Center in Newington.
Dr. Chin is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Connecticut Society of Eye Physicians, and the New England Ophthalmological Society. A native of New York he moved to Connecticut in 1985. Dr. Chin is married with 2 children and enjoys tennis.
